Fight for grant of Article 371-A status to Arunachal: PPA

ITANAGAR, Feb 17: The People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) has called upon the people of the state to fight for grant of Article 371-A status to Arunachal Pradesh.

“It is unfortunate that the people of Arunachal are preparing to rejoice for the very day that has brought doom and darkness to the future generation of the state,” said PPA president Kahfa Bengia in a release while referring to ensuing grand Statehood Day celebration.

“We are yet to know how much we have lost in terms of not having ownership rights over our indigenous resources that do not find mention in the Arunachal Statehood Act 1987, he said.

The 20th February should, in fact, be a day of mourning and all the enlightened citizens of the State should make a soul searching exercise as to what corrective steps the Govt. should take to ‘right this great historical wrong’ by amending the Constitution of India for granting us the status of Article 371-A, he said and added that non provision of this Constitutional status has made us a vassal state of the Centre.

“States like Nagaland and Mizoram have been placed under Article 371-A and these states have ownership rights over their natural resources within their territories. Unfortunately the leaders of our state hurriedly welcomed the Statehood status without studying the social, political and economic ramifications of the Act towards the state,” said Kamen Ringu Chairman, CWC, PPA in a party meeting on Arunachal Statehood Act 1987.

“The Article 371-H under which Arunachal is placed in, other than giving overriding powers to the Governor of the State is silent on all other subjects making Arunachal dependent on Centre for everything,” he rued.

“There is no mention of our ownership rights over our indigenous resources like land, water and forest that is why most of the MOUs/MOAs on Hydropower Projects were signed in New Delhi, Ringu said.

The party requested the leaders, intellectuals and various other Civil Organizations to come forward and fight for grant of Article 371-A status which will eventually make this state economically self-reliant, added Ringu.

A good initiative

Forceful donation in the names of unions, associations and organizations has been hurting the image of state. Business communities as well employees of both state and central government offices are the worst victim of forceful donation incident. Most of the time victim does not report the matter to police, which directly or indirectly encourages these monsters to carry on with their nefarious activities. Often people blame weak governance for the rise of such kind of unlawful activities.

However it seems state government is now seriously taking action against such groups. As per the report in local media, State Chief Secretary Ramesh Negi recently held a review meeting of police action on forceful collection of money by the students’ unions in the preceding quarter. CS expressed satisfaction on the action taken by the district police against criminals who have been forcefully collecting money or making demands in the name of student unions.  As per the report, action has been initiated against various student unions and community based organizations. This initiative of state government deserves appreciation. But they need to continue it and don’t allow few bunch of goons to run amok in the state. Arunachal need to create healthy atmosphere in order to attract business community to invest in the state.

Time to pay back to animals

Dear Editor,

We humans are intelligent enough to make use of animals for our own benefit, but sometimes we go beyond borders of human decency and misuse or give trouble to animals. Man’s oldest and best friend- the dog is a versatile and intelligent animal. The dog which is a loving companion to man (especially a blind man) is not only kept as pet-cum-guard-dog by pet lovers, it is also an indispensable part of many organisations like police force, Armed forces, anti-drug squad and bomb squad etc. It is unfair that when we humans fall sick we make use of best medical facilities to prolong our life but when it comes to animals some section of society have a different view.

Whether it is human beings or animals, all are entitled to live their full life. When we humans have a problem we voice our views through an association which has a leader. But unfortunately these voiceless animals have to depend on humans to speak for their rights. We who consider ourselves superior to animals have taken a lot from them, but it is high time we give back to animals what is due to them.

Ensure installation of proper ILP checking mechanism

Dear Editor,

It is indeed very good news for us that Rajdhani Express train service will start operation from Naharlagun very soon. It would be very helpful for our students studying in North Indian states and business too will improve. But, in the context of the ignorance and backwardness of our people and with the threat of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants who have become the ruling party of Tripura and leader of Opposition in Assam, I would request our CM, student unions, NGOs, societies, social workers, media persons and professors of our university to study about legal ways by which illegal migrants can be prevented from entering and settling in AP with the opening of railways in our state. The main banner of the railway station at Yupia is in Assamese language. I would not blame any outsider, but such act of disregarding the interest and convenience of local people could only be possible with the help of our own ministers, officers, contractors, students and people living in Yupia. This act indicates the level of compromise our Arunachal people can make for some petty personal benefits. This incident also predicts that our minister, officers, students unions, societies, media, professors and common people of AP would never bother about illegal Bangladeshi immigrants until all AP people are dominated and deprived by exponential and magical inflow and growth of Bangladeshi immigrants. By that time it would be totally useless to wake up to regain the lost ground by any means. Today is the right time for all minister, officers, students unions, societies, media, professors and common people of AP to formulate stringent strategies to check the incoming of any illegal migrants and stop compromising on this issue for the sake of some petty personal financial benefits. I would like to request our CM and concerned railway authorities to replace the main railway banner written in Assamese with another banner written in either Hindi or English which our AP people are comfortable with. Not only the main banner, but all other banners should be in English and Hindi.

Not a right claim

Dear Editor,

This is in response to the article published in your daily on February 06, 2015 titled “AdiSU expresses resentment”. Since time immemorial Namsai is the only district where Tai-Khamptis is in majority and literally the claim made by AdiSU is not true. From border issue to Chakma Hajong and PRC issues it’s the Khamptis who are struggling and fought whereas the others are merely the spectator.

Yours,

Dr. Chow Nakunand Singkai

Namsai District
